BenjiCam (the Mac and iPhone app) is made by Benjamin Pavelka. In short: BenjiCam does not collect any data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking, and nothing is sent to the developer.
What stays on your device
- Your dashcam and Sentry recordings, unlocked videos, the library, names, notes and marks are stored only on your device (or in a folder you choose, e.g. Files, Dropbox or Photos).
- The app remembers which folder or drive you picked and your language setting, locally on the device.
What is sent, and where
- Tesla (
dashcam.tesla.com). Since firmware 2026.20 Tesla encrypts dashcam clips. To unlock them, the app sends Tesla the key metadata from each clip's header (clip id, VIN, key id, timestamp and the wrapped key) together with your Tesla sign-in token – the same request Tesla's own website makes. Video is never uploaded. The video is decrypted locally. The token is stored in the device Keychain (this device only, never synced) until it expires, so you do not have to sign in on every launch. The Tesla sign-in page keeps its own cookies in a separate browser store used only for dashcam.tesla.com. Sign out in the app removes both. Tesla's handling of this request is governed by Tesla's privacy notice. - Apple Maps. The route map shows the GPS position recorded in the video. Map tiles are loaded from Apple Maps under Apple's privacy policy.
- Feedback. Report a bug, Suggest an idea and Send an email only open a web page or your mail app with the app version and system version filled in. Nothing is sent unless you submit it yourself.
Permissions
- Photos (add only): used only when you choose to save an exported video to Photos. The app cannot read your photo library.
- Files / USB drive: the app reads only the folder you pick. In drive mode it does not write to the drive. Deleting originals happens only after you confirm a list of the files.
TestFlight
When you test a beta through TestFlight, Apple shares crash reports, usage information and any feedback you send through TestFlight with the developer, as described in Apple's TestFlight terms. This is handled by Apple, not by BenjiCam.
Children
BenjiCam is not directed at children and does not knowingly process any data about them.
